Connecting your sump pump to the city's sanitary sewer system is not only illegal, but also detrimental to our community. When sump pumps discharge into the sewer, it overwhelms the sewage treatment facilities and can lead to untreated sewage entering rivers and lakes. To protect our environment and prevent backups into homes, we urge you to ensure that your sump pump is disconnected from the sanitary sewer, instead sump pump should discharge only into the yard or storm sewer.
