The City of Graettinger would like to remind everyone of our Independence Day Ordinances. Please be respectful to your neighbors. While Iowa law allows the year-round sale of fireworks, that doesn't mean you can set them off whenever and wherever you want. Cities maintain local jurisdiction for setting dates and times for legal fireworks use. Graettinger ordinance dictates that it is unlawful for any person to use or explode any display fireworks in town... Novelties, including sparklers, are allowed on private property from July 1 to the 8th and from Dec 10 to January 3 between 9 am and 10 pm.

The recent severe weather and excessive flooding have impacted several areas across Iowa. The City of Spencer faced significant challenges due to the heavy rainfall and flooding. The community has rallied together to support those effective and if you're able, please consider donating blankets, air mattresses, personal hygiene items, or canned foods to the Palo Alto County Hospital. Items can be dropped off here at the City Hall or taken to the hospital to be distributed to families in need. Your support can make a difference.

Currently we have seen some major flooding in Spencer and our surrounding communities. Flooding can pose significant challenges for communities, and the City of Graettinger is no exception. The city has taken proactive steps by renting a pump to remove excess water. To further mitigate risks, residents should continue allowing their sump pumps to run all excess water outside rather than into sanitary sewer systems. This helps prevent overwhelming our sewer system during the continued rainfall. Please stay safe and stay vigilant my friends!

Dear residents, we kindly request your attention to an essential matter regarding your sump pump systems. Connecting your sump pump to the city's sanitary sewer system is not only illegal, but also detrimental to our community. When sump pumps discharge into the sewer, it overwhelms the sewage treatment facilities and can lead to untreated sewage entering rivers and lakes. To protect our environment and prevent backups into homes, we urge you to ensure that your sump pump is disconnected from the sanitary sewer, instead sump pump should discharge only into the yard or storm sewer. Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a healthy and sustainable community. Sincerely, the City of Graettinger.
